Electrification of wheel loaders

Developing these products requires an in-depth understanding of the applications and challenges customers face when electrifying their vehicles. When scoping wheel loaders for retrofit projects, we wanted the challenge to be electrification of large vehicles with the hope of significantly reducing their fuel consumption. Wheel loaders are a common application and this type of vehicle is produced in large numbers each year. By advancing the design and system architecture of wheel loaders, we aim to create an impact that can be rolled out across the market, providing the greatest net benefit from electrification, and then apply these lessons to other applications.

While electrification is a megatrend focused on reducing carbon emissions, it adds value for owners and operators in many other ways, including controllability, noise reduction and lower total cost of ownership (TCO). HEV vehicles also play a key role in reducing emissions and fuel consumption in applications that cannot be fully electrified with current technical capabilities.
