Select backhoe attachments are compatible with backhoe loaders as well as skid steers. The goal of a backhoe attachment is to either expand the capabilities of a backhoe loader or help you get the most out of the investments you already own.
Backhoe attachments are centered around convenience, as operators have the freedom to transform what an earth-moving machine can do without having to exit the cab. Most construction professionals use the following types of backhoe attachments for skid steers and excavators:

· Bucket attachments: Front-facing bucket attachments help you dig into dirt, grass and other soft surfaces, which is one of the primary functions of a traditional backhoe. Bucket attachments are also excellent for creating synthetic dams.

· Auger attachments: An auger attachment enables equipment operators to drill into compact soils and rocky terrains in seconds. Your workers might use a skid steer to pinpoint the location of under ground plumbing or to create an opening for structural beams prior to building.

· Ripper attachments: Crews can use a ripper attachment to tear into hard materials like asphalt and concrete. The excavation piece allows for precise cuts when repairing road systems, sidewalks and similar surfaces. Ripper attachments also work well to break apart strong aggregates after a demolition takes place.

· Hydraulic breaker attachments: Pairing a hydraulic breaker attachment with an excavator is a great way to demolish rocks and concrete structures in a controlled manner. You can think of hydraulic breakers as jackhammers for earth-moving machines. It’s common for miners to use these attachments while working inside quarries. Your crew might use a hydraulic breaker attachment to avoid blasting methods during a demolition.

 Pros of Backhoe Attachments

Backhoe attachments provide flexibility during a project. Equipment operators have the option to pair different technology with wheel loaders, skid steers, excavators and other equipment for cost savings. If you already own earth-moving equipment, finding backhoe attachments compatible with your fleet is generally less expensive than purchasing or renting new and unique attachments that only suit a backhoe loader. Using a single machine for your efforts can save you time and reduce the operational costs involved in transporting multiple pieces of equipment.

Cons of Backhoe Attachments

Not all backhoe attachments will be compatible with your current fleet. Purchasing or renting attachments may involve hunting down products by a specific manufacturer ensuring a correct fit. If a backhoe attachment is unsuitable for your skid steer or excavator, you run the risk of damaging company equipment or causing an accident on site. Some equipment operators may prefer having a backhoe loader for daily tasks to avoid switching between attachments.
